Nissan Motor recalls more than 26,000 cars in
Japan, U.S.
Nissan Motor Co. will recall 26,077 cars to fix defective brake
lights and faulty bolts on a shaft that transfers power from the engine to the
front wheels, an official said Tuesday. There were no reports of injuries due to
the defects.
The models subject to the recall are the Cima, President and
Skyline sedans and Stagea wagons made in Japan between December 2000 and June
2004, Transport Ministry spokesman Toshihiko Kude said.
He said owners would be notified soon and that the defect would
be repaired free of charge.
Of the total, 100 Cima models were exported to the United States
and sold under the Infiniti M45 and 945 model names. The remaining 25,977 cars
were sold in Japan.
Kude said a loosened bolt could cause the propeller shaft, which
links the front wheels to the engine, to come off on the Cima, President and
Stagea models.
He also said that 259 Cima, Stagea and Skyline cars subject to
the propeller shaft recall, including those exported to the United States, would
also be called in for brake-light malfunctions.
